Well, I guess you live and you learn. I never owned a convertible before I purchased a '96SETC back in November. The weather in Chicago is finally starting to get nice so the top has been coming off. Over the weekend, I parked underneath a tree and went to put the top up and the tourneau (sp?) got jammed on a branch. I didn't know that I could stop the raising motion in the middle and reverse it so, instead, I tried to back the car up and dislodge the tourneau. I ended up breaking off the corner piece (the little piece that raises and lowers and covers the mechanics when the top is down). Surprisingly, krazy glue worked incredibly well on this type of plastic (the only time it has ever really worked other than on your skin) and the piece is attached solidly and working perfectly. The problem is, though, that the top now creaks horribly whenever I go over bumps in the road. Sounds as if plastic is rubbing against rubber. I looked at the tourneau on both sides and noticed that the side that hit the tree seems to be slightly off center compared to the other side. When I push on that corner, the creaking noise is made so it is obviously the problem. The question now, what to do. I am going to try to raise the tourneau tomorrow morning and see if it does look bent or off center when it is up. If so, I will try to push it back into place I guess. Or, is my best bet to cut my losses and just take it to the dealer and get it fixed (wouldn't mind avoiding the cost associated with that)? Any other suggestions? Has this type of thing happened to anyone before? Any guidance would be appreciated and, yes, I fees stupid for having made such a dumb mistake.
