Reprogramming digital odometers

Another discussion on this board (see http://saabnet.com/tsn/bb/NG900/index.html?bID=66034) now has me paranoid. This guy says it's inexpensive and easy to have digital odometers reprogrammed to any mileage you want. My question is, is this really possible? And what kind of disreputable place would actually perform such a service (and reportedly charge little for it). Also, wouldn't SAAB know whether an odometer had been tampered with and check for it before performing any warranty work?
TIA
Robb
