He may be talking about the valve(s) for the Secondary Air Injection. Your car has no EGR system, but the air injection is similar.
This is a system on the non-turbo NG900's which injects air into the exhaust at startup via a system of hoses/pipes which you can see by simply opening the hood and looking at the exhaust manifold. The goal is to decrease tailpipe emissions....and since the entire purpose of the Check Engine light is to come on (by federal regulation) whenever any condition MAY cause out-of-spec emissoins...then it makes sense that a problem with this system would cause this.
There are a few "valves" in this system. Only one is electonically actuated, located up near the firewall with 2 vacuum hoses attached. Since this is the only valve in the system which is electronic, it would be the one to make the CE light come on. Non-function of the air pump motor (in front of the left fenderwell, buried inside) in this system would also cause a CE light potentially.
