Some obervations while the filter box hose was removed.

When I was replacing the lower rad hose ... in preparation for a Viggen IC install which will follow ... I removed the hose from the filter box to the turbo inlet cast aluminum elbow, to see things better below.
With the 95 and some other years, the engine blow by gasses are vented into this casting down at the 90 degree bend. So seeing some deposits there would be expected. But I saw a mess all of the way up. Oil and black deposits. Not heavy of course, but at first glance unsettling.
I swabbed the outlet of the air box with a white paper towel and it was perfectly clean. Not problems with the K&N. What is happening, is that the BPV (TurboXS unit in this case) is allowing the blow by crud in the IC discharge pipe to blast though the BPV return pipe to the rubber elbow. So the flow when the BPV opens must be quite violent to purge this stuff from the 2" piping like that. The sudden decompression flow would also cause some of the oil film from the IC to get moving too.
(Some turbo enthusiasts build crankcase ventilation filters to trap this crud to avoid fouling up the IC's. Others filter and vent to atmosphere, which is quite illegal.)
