Glad that it worked out. All of that is a big job! You probably have a good case of mechanics rash!
ANS: Yes, my forearms are cut up! Finger nails are just getting clean.
Any pump body fasteners difficult to get out? Any problems with the gasket surface of the pump back half? How did the wetted metal surfaces appear?
ANS: ALL fasterners came out without difficulty. The pump came apart very easily. I did have to take some time to clean the old gasket off the gasket surfaces. I used a utility knife and was very careful not to take any aluminum off. As you observed, the inside of the pump was beautufully clean and the reserviour was not! I took the reserviour off and put some small pebbles in there (I counted them) and shook vigorously trying to clean. Didn't work that great, but better. I put lock-tite on almost every bolt. I cleaned a lot of power steering junk off things too.
The 0-rings supplied with the pump also included the ones for the pump to block adapter?
Yes, three in total. Water pump to adapter, adapter to block, and small o-ring for heater hose.
How did you manage the repair and 500 miles in one weekend!
Started repair Friday afternoon, slept, finished Saturday morning. Went upstate (NY) for camping Saturday (130 miles). Came back home Sunday (130). Went back upstate to fish (Beaverkill) on Monday morning (100), caught no trout. Went to girlfriends in Queens Monday night (130). Then to work this morning (30). Happily exhausted.
