The stock valves work fine, but they can fail, but not often. With higher boost pressures, especially with MBC, the valves make tooting noises as boost come on, but only at the lower boost levels. So this is more of a nusance than anything else. So I put in a metal piston type just to get rid of the noise. The aftermarket valves do allow for faster boost recovery across shifts when driving aggressively.
Normally referred to as bypass valves, and a dump valve is mostly a term used for a valve that dumps the air to atmosphere. A bypass valve will typically be open at idle and manifold vacuum, so these will allow unfiltered air into the engine a return hose is not used. A dump valve used with a T7 (my2000+) or a system with a mass air sensor, will cause running problems and check engine lights sometimes as the sensor dictates air flow and the ECU delivers fuel. The loss of air via the dump valve causes a very rich fuel spike.
