Replacing front tire/size question

I have a very slow leak in the front right tire of my new-to-me 1996 900SET. In about two weeks, the air pressure went from 33 to 25 psi. Since I have a long cross-country trip coming up in the next month or so, I am thinking of replacing the front tires. The thing is, there are a pair of Falken 502s which were just put onto the car about 5,000 miles ago. I am pretty broke and would rather not take them off and buy four tires if I don't have to.

The Falken 502s are 205/50/16s. My main question is whether I need to get 205/50/16s on the new tires as well. Most of the ones I'm interested in (high performance all-season tires - probably Dunlop Sport A2s) seem to come in 205/55/16. There are very few choices in the 205/50/16 size - the Pirellis are too expensive, and I don't know much about the Firestone Firehawk GTA tire.

Should I get the rims checked before I splash out on a new tire? Could it possible be something else?
