I used a three inch hose clamp not zip ties. Remove the trunk liner - most time consuming part of the job. The liner is semi rigid and comes out as one piece. You have to remove the cargo hooks on the trunk floor to get the liner out. The motor/gear assembly is located on the passenger side of the trunk. The motor is not removed. It is attached to the gear assembly via a door hinge. It swings down to mate with the gears. Over time that hinge gets bent out of alignment and the gears don't mesh and they make a nasty grinding noise. That red lever behind the rear passenger seat actuates a cable and "pulls" the motor away from the gears allowing you to manually lower the top. So push the two pieces together to make sure that they are engaged. If I remember correctly they kinda 'click' when properly engaged. Next, the hose clamp is kinda snaked around the motor and the gear assembly. It's kinda difficult to describe but once you get in there you will understand what you are trying to accomplish and will know where to put the clamp. You want to be careful not to pinch any of the electrical wiring. Once the clamp is situated you tighten it down. Power screwdriver will make the whole thing easier. The red lever behind the back passenger seat is now disabled ie you will be unable to disengage the gears and manually raise/lower roof. I did this repair last fall and the top has been up and down a lot. No problems. Hose clamp costs about a buck and a quarter. Complete labor time is maybe an hour with most of the time spent removing and reinstalling the trunk liner.
