The T5 ecu is so good at controlling things, that the ECU only will reduce the boost when somehing is seriously wrong. Note that with the Abbott ecu mod, the boost is 17 psi and the the ecu is not having to reduce the pressure below this to control knocking. It is clear that the ecu manages things very well with timing and enrichment. Many automakes use ECU controlled boost solenoids. Nothing magic there.
With the C900's the ECU was less able and the APC was working quite often. Today the APC is sort of an evolutionary artifact. It is now mostly used to reduce boost in the lower gears and acts as the servo for basic boost control. But its role as a fundamental component in knock control is very much reduced.
