New tranny or rebuild it, 96&97 SET prone to failure

That noise is from a loose bearing in the transmittion. People who have this problem can (1) live with the noise until the bearing breaks (2) breakdown the tranny for a rebuild and replace the loose bearing (3) order a rebuilt tranny from eirkson (4) get an upgraded transmittion from SQR.

People who have this noise still can drive there cars for still long periods of time without breakdown. Sorry to break the news to you but it probly cost around $1k for yours to be broken down for a rebuild, $2k for a rebuilt transmittion from eirkson or $3+k for an upgraded tranny. I also recently talked to some mechanics who feel that due to the liability involved in rebuilding the transmittions that most mechanics will probably just refer there customers to buy a rebuilt transmittion from someone like eirkson to keep down their costs.

I also have talked to some dealership mechanics who say that they have been seeing this alot recently in the 96 and 97 set and have been doing rebuilds to fix them. I also have a early 97 set so I know that sooner or later I will be in the same catagorie as you. It sucks if you don't want to sell your car!


It will be costly to repair if you can't live with the noise is the bottom line. Start saving your money or sell the car.
