Try to stay away from the first years of any new model.
I'm driving a 1997 Talladega, which is a beautiful car, but has some aggrevations. First is a "Clutch Cable" not a hydraulic clutch system, in winter, twice I've released the clutch pedal and the car didn't move, then like a hammer all of a sudden I was going drag racing. Saab/GM Canada, replaced the cable, no charge, even after 3.5 years In the newer 9.3 models the clutch is now hydraulic and a lot nicer.
In the 1994-95-96 years, I understand there was a braking problem and in 1997 they changed to the 9000 series front brakes.
Check (http://www.alldata.com) for recalls and upgrades. Saab/GM Canada has been very good at servicing and honouring problems and upgrades, enough so that I would buy another Saab.
