I just changed the upper radiator hose a few weeks ago, it was leaking at where it goes into the thermostat, and would not stop despite re-applying. Cost for the hose was about $20, plus new clamps were a few bucks at the local autoparts, if I recall correctly, hose purchased from site sponsor, and it took me about 1/2 hour to install, someone who knows what they are doing should be able to do it quicker. Search this bb for procedure for upper and lower rad. hose, I know its been posted, you need to drain the radiator for lower, not upper, which is also fairly easy. Labor for lower about the same, 1/2 hour. $800 sounds like an awful lot of $ (two hoses, about $50, 1 hour labor), more like $100 - 150 parts/labor to do both at once. Search site sponsors for cost of hoses
New hose was firm, med-hard to the touch, holds shape well when cold, when hot it gets a little squishy, but still firm.
Thermostat on V6 requires removing air plenum and a couple of hoses and connectors, and I think maybe the fuel rail, its not difficult skill-wise (screw and unscrew, pull hose, reinsert hose), but you must keep track of multiple hoses/connectors and where they reattach. Labor shouldn't be much more than 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Thermostat costs about $60 from site sponsor, I have one waiting in the garage for if/when the old one goes bad, not worth the effort now to do it preventative. Search this bb for symptoms of failed thermostat. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (but be ready).
