Usually the problem isn't only the cable. Sometimes it is but most of the time the clutch starts to drag excessively on the throwout bearing sleeve and causes a heavy pedal. The stupid self adjusting feature on the cable slips or fails from the added load from the binding clutch assembly. But if you just want to replce the cable it's best to remove the lower console cover (plastic) the the biggest help is removing the metal ribbed knee gaurd to gain access to the clip on the cable. The little sucker is spring loaded and is sometimes a booger to get on. If your mechanically inclined you can do it- if any doubts have someone who has done it do it before you have to have it towed half apart.
