strange problem with transmission

I was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them, and what it may have been. On July 3rd (car packed and ready to go) my 900 SE convertable had been driving and shifting fine, but, once I turned it off at my friends house, the car's clutch did not disengage. It would not go into reverse while started. I had no problem putting in reverse with the engine not running. Once started it in first, I had my cluch pedal floored and the car still moved forward. I shut it off and gave it a couple hours and then it worked but the shifting was really stiff. Now after resting for a few days, it seems to be working fine. It's in the shop now, but, I'd like to get an idea re: what I might be dealing with. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Loriann
