Expect to have to budget at least 100.00 a month for maintenance and repairs. Expenses will come periodically. From my experience, the big dollar stuff generally is not a problem provided your transmission holds up. If it is the automatic, it should be quite trouble free. Some folks have problems with the manual trans. This can be expensive. These cars generally run quite well for at least 175,000 miles or so, if well cared for (at least the four I had did, verdict is still out on my 1994 model @ 105,000 miles).

You can about be guaranteed you will spend money on an exhaust system (300.00), serp belt and pulleys (real soon) (75.00), hoses (120.00), front suspension (600.00), brakes and rotors (200.00), ignition parts (260.00) in addition to routine maintenance. These prices are DIY prices with parts from our TSN sponsors, double them if you will have a dealer do it. With the 1998 model, at least you wont be feeding it a steady diet of clutch cables (if a manual).

If we were talking about a Jeep Cherokee, (certain Ford and Chevys also come to mind) or some other "disposable" vehicle here, they will be pretty well shot by the time they get 100,000 miles on them, right about the time the paint starts falling off. If it was a Merc, BMW, or Audi they are damn near impossible to work on and will break the bank with repair costs over 100,000 miles. Hondas and Toyotas will run forever, but will bore the s--t out of you.

But you know you would be much happier with a Saab turbo...ever drive one?
