Start with a cold engine, hood up. With a good stat the upper rad hose will stay cool until the engine gets hot then will get hot very fast when the stat opens. With a stat that is stuck open, the rad hose will warm up along with the engine. That will settle the issue.
If you are going to replace the stat yourself, search for drs<underscore>install and you will find a post on replaceing the stat. When you change the stat, if you are needing to replace the coolant, this is an ideal time to flush the system.
Be sure that when you get a stat from the dealer that it is infact the proper temp spec. Some lower temp units were put in bags for the partnumber that you need, but they are the wrong part!
