Well, my wife and I just returned from a trip to Denmark, Sweden and Norway, and decided to make a side trip to Trollhattan.
Trollhattan is a nice town, about an hour and a half from Goteborg, where they make that other Swedish car. Trollhattan's signficance (other than Saab) is that it is at one end of a canal system that links the coasts and interior of Sweden. Even without the Saab stop, there are lots of things to see.
The Saab museum was a trip. You know that prototype from the 40's we always see with the classic shape? Yup, it is right there on display. They have a signficant herd of classics (like the last OG 900 to come off the line) so it is really a nostalgia trip. There are other displays that make the trip memorable. I can't say the staff was terribly knowledgable, particularly about the US, but that could have been because they were having a big dealer doings (I missed Marty and Annette Adams from Meyer Garage in Iowa by a day). As a result of the dealer stuff and the introduction of the 9-3, they cancelled the plant tours until September. I don't know if I could have dragged my wife to that anyway.
Overall, worth the visit if you are in Sweden. Nice little town. We stayed at the Hotel Belle on the main street. Parking in back and walking distance to almost everything. Nice Swedish breakfast in the morning. for an extra 20 kr they let us use their washer (a big deal when you are two weeks out and laundromats are hard to find.)
If anyone is interested, I'll send the pics when I get them back.
Peace, Dennis
