Burned fluid ain't good, although if it hasn't been changed, it might be pretty dirty. There's a chance you blew part of the valve body or one of the solenoids, but that's remote (though cheaper, trans basically stays in, just parts replaced).
I don't see a price listed for the rebuilt auto on AllData (5-speed is $1650 for those keeping track). I don't know if the dealer can get one, or if they always rebuild. These don't fail too often.
One notch below that is a used box pulled from a junked (sorry, 'recycled') car. Call Goldwing and see what they say, it'll be the cheapest but most risky. Then again, they just don't die that often.
For example, the used (unwarranted) 5-speed (for my '95) is ~$800 from them, so you can see how the prices go.
