The ends of the filter have different thread sizes to you cannot mix it up. They did change the shape of the filters end to end, so you could end up with a new filter that looks backwards... don't worry about it.
You should get new sealing washers. You will need 4 of these. Order them with the filter. You might be ok with the old washers, but what will you do if there is a leak? Mine had their rubber bits a bit torn when I did the work. The old rubber also takes a set and hardens and might not reconform to a new fitting.
When you remove the filter, have lots of rags and/or paper to catch the spilt fuel. I suggest that you work outside for two reasons. That way you will get less fumes to breath and if there was a fire you don't loose the garage or house.
You will need a selection of open ended wrenches. Use some neversieze on the clamp bolt when fitting up.
