I don't know of any easy answers. Even if you were just to find a used trans. to swap into your car, so much of the cost is labor to r&r the trans. and you'd still replace the clutch, for the cost of the used trans you could rebuild yours and then be assured that it's reliable.
If the syncro is just worn out there is no problem driving the car or shifting. The only problem would arise if you were 'grinding' the gears when shifting and then you're sending some metal particles into the trans. oil and will probably end up chipping a tooth. If you can double clutch and shift smoothly that will sure help. In my experience with worn syncros you can usually up shift without too much trouble, it's the down shifts that are hard, so minimizing the down shifting will help. different shifting techniques will sometimes help with different problems, so maybe try various things. Lots of people drive around with worn out syncros - it's the grinding that'll hurt.
Obviously if there was a big bang or something else dramatic before the problem there may be more wrong than just the syncro and if you've been doing a fair bit of grinding an oil change might be in order.
