I have a 1995 900s 2.3L n/a, same problem replaced timing and balance chains and all gears, tensioners etc. car runs still the same when I go into reverse of drive the engine surges ( vibration) cannot notice on tach which stays at 1000 rpms, but can feel the engine surging. above 1000 rpms when I am driving the engine sound and feels like brandnew, not even a slight vibration.

seems like you have the same problem , I gave up trying to trouble shoot it, I even took it to saab mechanics they could not find anything wrong using the tech II computer. says all elect parts are good,I spent allot of money fixing this car . _

If you get your car fixed please let me know.
