Magnetic drain plug after oil change....

Having already lost one engine to an oil pump failure (at 58K!!) last fall, I decided to following Dean's good idea of using a magnetic drain plug to see if the new engine is slowly self-destructing itself. And at the last oil change (5000 miles ago) I installed this drain plug. Yesterday, I changed the oil and examined the plug.

The magnetic part of the plug had several brown clumps of burnt(?) oil but no noticeable metal chunks or shavings. Upon further examination of the brown clumps and smearing it with my finger, I noticed that the the oil had a silvery sheen to it...I'm guessing the sheen is a result of very fine metal particles in the oil (normal wear?). So with a the new engine with about 45,000 miles on the clock, I'm pretty confident that things are okay.

Does anyone have any other experiences with using the magnetic drain plug? Dean?
