My guess would be either ignition switch or fuel pump.
Those two items goes bad sooner or later on the first years of the NG900.
If you or your boyfriend is handy with a regular testlite, you could rule out the fuel pump with a simple test.
Lift up the backseat, on passenger side in floorpan is a circular plastic lid, lift that one up and under there is the electric connectors for fuel pump.
Find the Black/Green wire and hook your test light up to that and ground.
If the light shine when the car doesn't start, it's the fuel pump.
If the light doesn't illuminate when cranking over the engine, thet problem is to be found somewhere else. Possibly ign switch.
