There is A LOT of info here (in NG900) or in the General Board.
There are several excellent and thorough guides to the Saab audio systems and many upgrades (including new heads and additional/replacement amps). Do a search and there will be MORE than enough reading.
Here are some of the main and common observations I remember from some of these:
1. Leave the head unit alone and add additional amplifiers.
2. Existing head unit does not do the rear speakers justice - install an additional amp in the trunk (fed from line out on existing head unit) to power rears.
3. If your car does not have the premium sound system, it will not have speakers in the doors (regardless that there are grilles) and most likely not have wires for the door speakers which are a pain to run.
4. If you hve premium sound system, the door speakers are mid-bass speakers only powered by an additional 20W (I think) amp under the dash.
4. Speaker upgrades make a big difference - in order of improvement -> 1. replace dash speakers, 2. replace rear speakers (even without adding add'l amp), 3. replace door speakers (if you have them - though most think that the difference in sound is not worth the $ or hassle of removing door panels).
5. Most people feel that the Infinity Kappa or Reference series speakers are pretty good.
6. Saab connectors are funky. If you replace speakers, you will have to add connectors to the wires at the speaker end (no big deal). And the head unit data connector is a VERY funky design and cannot be found "off-the-shelf". You'll have to make your own.
Best thing to do is a search and plan on spending a couple of hours reading...
