I bought my 900set just over six weeks ago, it is a 98 Talledega, and had 104k miles on it (highish !!!), but with a full Saab dealer service history, (last one done at 92 not 90k miles)and apart from slightly dull black painwork (too many auto carwashes) it is absolutely immaculate. It was also very cheap (£4k, or US$6K)

Lots of polishing restored the paint, and I had my local mechanic do the 102k service, changed every fluid, (except the PS fluid, and the synthetic tranny oil) fushed the cooling system, and the engine, new plugs etc, etc.

In response to advice from the board, I have also replaced the idler pulleys, and have a new DI cassette in the back "just in case", and put on a new battery, as the damp and cold UK winter approaches.

In six weeks I have done over 5,000 miles, mainly due to a weekly trip to company HQ in Oxford, some 250 miles from home, where I work for 2-3 days, plus lots of trips on business all over the UK.

My gut reaction to oil changes is to do them frequently, at least every 6,000 miles, despite the 12k miles service interval, but at this rate I will change the oil every seven or eight weeks, and my mechanic reckons that with modern synthetic oils, I am wasting money by throwing it out at 6,000 miles, and he recommended the full 12k, or 10k if I want to be cautious.

Oil and filters are not too expensive, even for Mobil 1 or it's equivalents, and I can easily do an oil change myself in half an hour, so I am inclined to change the oil next week, at 6k miles, but would appreciate comment, especially from anyone with a similar use profile.

Thanks guys (and gals!)
