Not sure if others had this problem or not, but I learned it the hard way, so wanted to relay the info to others.
My mom was driving my sister's SAAB 900SE Turbo, and one day started draining battery. Jumped it, and drove around, and gave it back to her, but it drained the battery again overnight. Took it to a shop and they said they found a culprit, loose latch in the hatchback lock they kept the light lit all the time. Shrug, paid the bill for one full hour's worth of work, gave it back to mom.
It happened again, and I got suspicious. It turned out that when the latch is unlocked, the light comes on even without lifting the hatch, and there is no indication on the dash that it is unlocked. I couldn't tell by driving around that the hatch was open 'cause the thing is so heavy and doesn't rattle. I ended up turning off the switch all together and told sis/mom that they need to switch it on manually at night and keey it OFF always.
What ticks me off is, my father took it to one shop that replaced a perfectly good battery w/o diagnosing problem, and another shop (Saab&Volvo only) charged us a full hour's worth of labor for finding and fixing the problem. Any Saab shop would know right away what the problem is (a dealer did when I went for an unrelated problem).
So, if your battery is draning, first see if you can lift the hatch w/o touching the fob. If it lifts up, it just may be you left it unlocked, and all you need is a simple jump. I don't want to see or hear anyone spending any money for a simple problem.
It's ok to have the light in the hatch area come on when it's unlocked, but it should light something up in the dash, don't you think?
