So here I was last night serching for a cold air intake for my 96 900S. but every thing I found in this board was unsatisfactory, because I would have had to leave that big plastic box and all origanal high restriction tubing.... So I got fed up and spend a whole $50 and afro-engeneered my own.
here is how.
I started by ripping out the whole thing, the air box, that tubing and that god forbidden black box that kills air flow and sitt ontop of the intake manifold. So now all I have left is my mass airflow sensor and "a bunch" of room to work.
I went to my garage and found some 3inch aluminim piping bent it at a 90 degree angle so that the short end was about an inch and a half long. I cut off the opening with the gaskets on it that fits into the intake manifold and clamped it to the short end of my aluminim pipe, that was then inserted into the intake manifold where as I then heated and bent the pipe in an arc to meet up with the mass air flow sensor and clamped them together. On the other end of the mass airflow sensor I clamped a K&N cone filter that was wearing a feux carbonfiber heat shield. from there out I clamped some aluminim flex tubing (from an old dryer) to the filter's inlet opening (this flex tubing is about 5inches in diamater and about 2.5 to 3 feet long) I snaked the flex tubing from the filter under the head light through a space in the frame (ended up squishing the tub to more of a square to fit here) then ran it down to face outward in the opening between the fog lights..... all of the tubing is high polished except for the opening that is between the fog lights that I painted matte black inside and out just enought wo that is masks its presence...
I will have pics when I get my film developed.
I took step by step pictures for anyone who wants to try it..
This air modification has made a considerable diffrence not only is sound harmonics running with my sport exaust but also I felt a pretty good diffrence... I would be safe to say I found the fabeled 10-13hp gain.
