It is possible the battery to be killed if the alternator is got a fault and tries to charge the battery to much. All alternators have a voltage regulator which controlls the charging voltage not to exceed 14.4V. If the regulator is faulty or if the voltage is only a fraction higher like 15V then the battery will be under considerable more strain because the alternator is overcharging. I wonder if that is the cause why Saabs kill batteries quicker. I just replaced my battery, I am going to go and measure the charging voltage just in case.
