Note as well that those tires move with corning forces. In a corner, the outside tires tread will move into the vehicle. When the bottom of the tread is forced in, the top of the tread moves inwards as well. So its safe to assume that the front center of the tread can move inwards as well, towards the fender liner. Some times if a front wheel hits a liner, if there is not metal behind that location, it can be heated with a heat gun and pushed back. The tire can help with the pushing too, with a thick pad. I don't know if this is ever done on the Saabs. If the scuff marks on the liner are from bumps, they will be higher up and the tire can't be used to press that in when heated.

I have a Passat DTI and went to 16" alloys and put 205/50-16 S-03s, which corrected its 4% speedo error perfectly!!! But the corner of the tread at the top rubbed the lower spring seat on the Bilstien HD struts, in spirited cornering. I put in 5mm wheel spacers and lifted the spring seat 5mm with a second support ring. Sometimes experiece is a pain in the butt. I had to remove the struts and tear them down to install that spacer. So now I know that the top tread move with the lower tread. These tires have wider tread than others. Some have the same wheels on the 97passat, and same tire numbers, adn they don't have rubbing.
