I had 4 kumhos in various states of wear and they are really nice for the
first few months, but they are so soft that they tend to feather
on the inside due to the negative camber. And after a while the
alignment of the car just didn't feel right. The Kumhos are wide
and sticky but they wear really bad.
I was going on a roadtrip to California so I wanted four fresh tires.
Big O carries the PaceMark Super GT. DON'T LAUGH at the name. ;)
They come in the correct size for 97 205/50/16. They are only
H rated. They are M+S rated but I will be putting on studded snows
somewtime in the next few weeks. I drove the Kumhos last winter and
it was scary as can be every time ther was ice on the road.
I believe that they are a goodyear tire rebranded by big
O. Anyway w the four new tires and a new alignment the suspension
feels the best it ever has. These tires are more touring than
high-performance but seemed to be a great tire for street and
highway use. They are <$100 each and they fell really good.
I think the footprint of the Kumhos is also a bit fat which
leads to more torque steer and tracking w the grooves in the
road. With the new tires the car feels like it tracks much straighter
and doesn't get grabbed by the grooves as much. If you're
just looking for good street tires at a good price this has
my vote.
