Impossible to diagnose in '94 900 (loss of power) Posted by Peter [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
If you're reading this then you obviously like challenges, and I've got one for you. I have a '94 900S with about 125k on it. The car has been maintained beautifully, driven with care, truly in excellent shape and never a problem except for typical (serpentine belt, clutch cable) you can expect. Except for one BIG problem. At extremely erratic intevals (we once went two years without having this problem), the car will be driving along, and all of the sudden lose power, lurching the occupants forward. The problem gets progressively worse, with the car sometimes shutting off completely and then not being able to be restarted. And then, an hour later (or any other arbitray amount of time afterwards) it will be PERFECTLY FINE. WE have had many expeienced SAAB mechanics try to solve this problem and none have been able to solve it. One thing we've noticed is never to let the gas tank go below 1/4. Additionally, I only use premium gas in the car. This is a very disconcerting and potentially dangerous problem (I live in LA and don't like the idea of having this happen on the 405) but even the SAAB dealer here ( at $80 per hour) has not been able to diagnose this problem. If anyone has any clue, I would love to hear it. The car is a manual (though this is not clutch slippage) and had complete diagnostics run on it not two weeks ago, and even yesterday it had this problem, though it seemed to subside when I turned the A/C off. Thank you in advance to anyone who has read this lengthy e-mail, and a special thanks to those who might have a solution.
Peter
