'95 Conv. top works erratically??

I cannot get the top to go through it's whole movement. This is a '95 900 conv. that had the top redone a couple of years ago. Part of the top on the interior came loose and caught on one of the flaps on the plastic lid. One of the flaps broke loose and popped the guide cable out of it's seating on the other flap, and now the plastic lid feels as though it's not even hooked to the drive motor. We can set the lid up, and try to get top to go down, but it keeps displaying the 'check latches' message. Which latches is it referring to, and is it possible that the drive motor either broke or was somehow disconnected from the lid? Thanks.
