I felt like a convertible - called an Indy who had done some work on a Jaguar I used to own - I told his secretary I found this Alpha with all maintenance records and only a couple of owners and I would like John's opinion (I know a little more than nothing about Alphas). He called back in 90 seconds and said "NO!". A five second pause and he said that it would be a great car for him but bad for me - Why do you think they went out of business in this country? Additionally he said should I not heed his advice and buy the car anyway I should certainly buy a "Bozo The Clown" outfit to wear while I drive it. Well, a few weeks later I researched the Saab convertible, found an old review by Car and Driver or R&T where the '95 V6 Saab outplaced a BMW and Mercedes convertible in terms of handling and overall performance so I bought one ( I did not call John to get his opinion as I figured I dodged the catastrophe already by passing on the Alpha). Time will tell what costume if any should be added to my wardrobe but I am going to send John the above Cantonese interpretation should a particularly smitten customer dismiss the Bozo argument.
