There is not much point in using an extractor if you still have to crawl under the vehile to remove the filter from below. If you can reach the filter easily, but it is mounted at an angle where oil spills when you remove it, you still need a vessel to catch the mess. And some vehicles will drain quite a bit of oil from the oil filter mount while the filter is off. So for me, the use of an oil extractor would be based on the filter replacement being clean and easy as well. The 4 cylinder engines don't meet that requirement. I had a Volvo 246 where I had a fitting in the sump, replacing the drain plug, and a permantently mounted hose with a drill pump inline. I could swing that hose overboard into a jug and put a drill on the pump. The fitler was easy to reach and did not make a mess when removed. That rig was nice because of the large cover under the engine which was a PIA to remove.
