If you are still running OEM battery in a 1997 model, it is time for replacement. Get a voltage meter and check your battery, it should have 13.5 - 14.5 V. If 10.5 V or less, whoever "charged" this for you is blowing smoke up your a - -.
A lot of these local auto parts stores will waste your time charging batteries with dead cells just to keep you from making warranty claims. Some are just plain dumb enough and do not know any better. WINTER IS COMING, so dont screw around with a weak battery. If it is 3 years old or more it is time for a new one.
