Depending on the type of tape you could possible have a fire. If the tape allows the oil to soak in or is absorbed in any way, the exhaust is plenty hot to combust the oil and this could lead to bigger problems (fire). If you could fashion some type of heat shield, (it must 2 layers with an air core so the upper most layer stays cool and does not cause the oil to smoke while properly routing the oil around the exhaust.

Your best bet is to just bite the bullet and get the car fixed and prevent the oil from leaching into the ground or being burned by the exhaust. Depending on what state your from, oil burning can voilate state emmisions laws.

Figure about $600 - 800 for the clutch job. I would try to find a good local mechanic that specializes in Saabs and stay away from the dealer as they tend to be very expenisive. If your handy, you can do the clutch yourself for $200 - $300, but get the Haynes manual and set aside 8 - 10 hours. I did mine, but would not attempt it without the proper tools, engine lift and air tools.
