Clutch Cable Broke (I think)

In stop & go traffic on 128 (MA) yesterday, when I pressed in the clutch, I felt a small pop, then my foot went to the floor. Fortunately, I was in the right most lane and easily glided into the breakdown lane. Based on what I've read here before, and last night when I got home, I'm guessing that the clutch cable (or string as it has been referred to) broke.

I have a '95 900SE Conv with 88K miles - so, when I bring it in for repair, is it likely that it will just be the cable, or something more. Better yet, I've owned the car since it had 33K miles and haven't had any clutch work done at all, so should I consider having the clutch plate examined/replaced?

Last question - I live in the Melrose area - any suggestions for a nearby indy to do the work? I grew up in central MA, and normally bring my car back there to have it worked on, but the towing charges for that trip would be pretty high.
