1996 900SET Purchase Question

SAAB newbie. Borrowed a few, never owned one. I do love the feel of them though. Sorry if this question is pedestrian. I've been test driving '95-'97 900SE's over the past few weeks. I just drove a 1996 900SET, 32K in excellent conditon (they're asking $13,500). What I noticed about this one was that when I stepped on the gas I went most of the way to the floor before I got any acceleration at all. It was downright dangerous pulling into traffic. The turbo kicked in at 2000 rpm, which gave that nice little push back in your seat feel. I've heard about turbo lag, but this was ridiculous. I also got a momentary engine warning light and ABS light a couple of times. It was very different from the others that I have driven. They all had good acceleration turbo or not. Does this sound like a major problem in the works? Should I run not walk away? I'll have it checked out thoroughly by a SAAB mechanic before purchase, but want to know if it is even reasonable to go that far. I've been reading the boards for a few days trying to learn. Thanks for all the information so far.
