I have been driving my 1995 900S since late October, 1994. It is coming up on 120,000 miles, and it still has the original clutch cable. Because of all of the posting about cable failure on the BB, I carry a spare in the trunk though.

Before buying the '95, I drove a '71 99E for a little over 24 years. When I finally turned it out to pasture (it was still running great), it had 283,000+ miles on it. Over the years, the "routine" repair that I really became adept at was rebuilding the clutch master and slave cylinders. On the average, I would say I rebuilt (replaced the seals) about every 3 years and replaced the cylinder after every 3 or 4 rebuilds. I was told that if I changed the hydraulic fluid as recommended (50,000 miles I think), then the seals would last a lot longer. But rebuilding and bleed the system was so inexpensive (about $4 for seals) and easy that I normally let it fail before I got around to changing the fluid. Making it home without a clutch was no big deal either, since the '71 was the last year of the Saab free-wheelers in the U.S.A.

If I had a NG900 or 9-3 now with the hydraulic clutch, you can bet I would be faithfully changing the hydraulic fluid to prolong the life of the seals.
