That was pretty painless. Thanks to bill h. and Dean and others, my serp belt replacement went well.
What I done did -
- Purchased belt. Requested part# GM 10-085-752. Parts guy ran it through his x-ref and sold me an "ATLAS" belt. The package says it replaces:
Gates # K060970
Dayco # 5060970
Goodyear # 4060970
Metric # 6PK2465
$35 CDN
- Bought upper idler from stealer. $65 CDN.
There's a FAG part # on the pulley (FAG 580 363A). I'm going to look around and see if a bearing supply can get these for less. Otherwise, I'm going to order a couple from a BB sponsor. The parts guy says "We go through a lot of these things when it gets cold". Great.
- Removed airbox (black dust all over my new k&n!).
- Removed right front wheel and inner fender plastic panel (3 screws).
- Vacuumed everything I could get at and washed everything I could wash. I found ball bearings in some weird places...
- Removed poorly designed, disintegrated upper idler and installed brand new poorly designed upper idler.
- Threaded the serp belt around all but the power steering pulley. Shortened belt now runs directly to the upper idler from the power steering pulley, bypassing the lower idler.
- Used 1/2" socket extension on the belt tensioner to leverage enough slack to slip the belt over the power steering pulley.
- Checked the belt on all pulleys and reinstalled the airbox, inner fender, and wheel.
- The pulley and belt R&R takes about 45-60 minutes. Cleaning up all the rubber dust and melted bearing bits takes about 3 hours.

Thanks all...
