FPR failure pretty unlikely, see my post about when I tore one apart. They're pretty solid. After the long crank, pull the vacuum hose (NOT the fule line, if there is one) off the FPR to check for presence of gas. A leak in the FPR has only one place to go, that is into the vacuum hose then into the intake assembly.
Haven't been following your dilemma too closely, but when I started replacing vacuum hoses randomly, that seemed to help. New PVC valve?
