Pothole Damage

Last night, we drove over a pothole in San Francisco. We knew it was a bad one, but had no idea until we got home.
Today, under the car, there was a huge pool of oil. I looked up under the car and it's coming from the oil pan. I can't see the crack, but I don't *think* oil was leaking too badly last night last night since the car drove us home another two miles and there were no warning signs on the guages. So, it must be high up on the pan and only leaks when the sump is full.
So, here are my questions...
1) Has anyone had a similar experience to this?
2) Does anyone think my high-priced extended warranty will cover this?
3) Can we collect damages from the City. This pothole was massive!
4) Any guesses on cost. I hope it's only the pan and that there is no damage to the bottom og the engine.
Thanks for any suggestions. I'll report back to this thread after the mechanic looks at it tomorrow!
