I've got a V6 auto, but I assume theyre similar.

First you need to remove the covers on either side of the middle console, they are held in w/star screws (this is where your inside knee-calf-foot hits the console). Then you need to remove the middle console cover, this is where the A/C, seat heater buttons, ashtray etc. are. First, from behind, push out and disconnect the A/c unit. Above it should be two push-pin type fasteners, you know, the kind where you have to push in the center about 2-3 mm, then pull out the fastner with a pliers of some sort. (p.s., I used this as an opportunity to do some detailing around all the buttons, crevices, etc.) unhook all the buttons and remove them, they all should push out from behind pretty easily. I don't recall if there are other fasteners on this middle console, just give it a tug and see where it binds to find out if there are others.

Next, you need to loosen the FRONT of the rear/middle console, this is where the ignition, windows, etc. are located. NO need to remove it, just remove the front retainer screw(s), it should bend back far enough to remove the center console cover. The center PRND123 console should then lift out. There is now a container/box type mechanism that the PRND is in is held on by a few bolts, you need to loosen them so you can bend it enough to get at the bulb mechanism. The alternative is to completely remove the rear console and the a/c tube going there that is otherwise blocking access to the light bulb. Its a total PIA, took me about 2 hours, start to finish, including going to get the bulb at the auto store.

The light bulb looks like a christmas tree light. They had it in stock at Murrays, have the guy look up the part number on the computer, its like "1157" or something like that of their generic brand bulbs.
