The early years and all 185 HP units were drag limited, which is one way of saying that there is no speed limit in the ECU. When the power was increased, and I can't recall such details, if there were different power options, I expect that all ECUs probably had speed limiting fuel cuts as for any lower power variants as well.

When the power was increase in later years, ECU imposed speed limits were added so that the added power did not allow greater speeds.

The main issue is that the vehicle could be driven at speeds where the tires are not safe or rated to be safe. If a tire fails at +150 mph, you are probably going to be dead. Flat tire or blowout = death.
