Since I was referred to in the initial post, it is my civic duty to respond. I purchased my car pre-owned/used with 37xxx miles on it, and I do not know the quality of the previous owner's shifting techniques. He/she may have learned to drive manual on the car, for all I know. That being said, I drive quite spiritedly at times, but I like to think I know how to shift smoothly, matching revs and "feathering" the clutch as little as possible. My clutch work was done at the dealer cost around $1300, by the way. And also, in further follow-up to my previous post, my clutch is now engaging at a more familiar point, further up in the pedal travel. I pulled the clutch pedal upwards as someone suggested and I think the self-adjusting cable self-adjusted.
