One is good. One is BAD...
The Good - I began to hear not a rattle but a tapping after my car warmed up at idle and it was NOT rpm specific. Turned out to be the AC lines near the fire wall vibrating. I put a couple of short lengths of pipe insulation on them (come to think of it, I need to check that insulation... It's probably melted by now)
The Bad - I had a very mechanical kind of rattle only with AC on when I got the car (at 28,000k). Kept complaining to dealer and they said it was normal. Didn't like that so I took it there and made them listen. They took the car in and found the cam belt tensionaer was broken. Big $ but I didn't pay for it.
Just two more possibilities.
