I have spent the last few hours perusing the many hundreds of tire-related postings on this site! But I still am having a hard time coming up with the answer to my dilemma.

I have a 96 SET with two very old tires on the front which need to be replaced. The tires on the back are Falkens, and have only been on for about 15,000 miles (they were on the car when I bought 'em). The tires are 205/50/16.

I have moved to New Jersey, and although I don't think I need snow tires, I do need all-seasons. It snows here occasionally (almost always under six inches). I know that all the best options are in 205/55/16s, but I can't really afford to replace all four tires, not when I don't need to replace the back ones (I am a grad student on a limited income!)

So, my question is: any all-season recommendations for the front tires in 205/50/16? On tirerack.com the only choices were Pirelli P7000s (a bit expensive for me), Potenza RE92s, Firehawk GTA02s, Goodyear Eagle RSAs, and Goodrich Radial T/A (which are only SR-rated, which I think does not match Saab's standards). The ratings on these were not great - the Pirellis sound incredibly noisy and bad in snow, the Potenzas supposedly are terrible in bad weather, and so on. It seems to be all bad news.

So -- any ideas?? Thanks!
