Well, your rear seal is leaking, the the cure is expensive, the trany gets pulled to expose the flywheel and clutch. The flywheel comes off to expose the rear seal. That seal is cheap. But is so much invested in the labor, many elect to replace the clutch (kit) and the shifter fork, and as the trany input shaft seals can go do that, and perhaps the other 3 seals and the clutch fork, and you might as well fill it with the Saab sinthetic gear oil (1.8 liters), or redline product. And the clutch cable for good measure..... assuming that you have a manual trany.
The new seal is not the same as the old one :). Many of us with higher miles want through this years ago. Its a Saab thing. If you love Saabs, you gripe and get the job done. If you don't, we don't see you here much longer.
I do feel bad for those who purchase a Saab because they could afford it. The NG900's are quite inexpensive as used vehicles these days and perhaps seem affordable to those with limited budgets. I feel bad about that when problems come along. These vehicles, when mature, are expensive at times just to keep on the road. But my 95SET was the best ride of my life. And I did turn it into a relatively low budget hotrod. Its power and responsiveness, and viseral properties will be the measure by which I judge all other vehicles. My 9-5 Aero does not measure up to that, but has its own qualities.
As for coolant leaks, all gear type clamps will allow leaks over time, as the rubber yields under the clamps and clamping pressure is lost. Re-tighen all that you can find, then have another look! The smaller OD ones are quite prone to this problem. The ones on the expansion tank were the first to allows leaks for me, and I had tighened them before that occured.
The water pump adapter 0-rings will start to leak around 125,000. But that can vary with hours and city to highway driving ratios etc. More cooling system posts avail by searching for drs<undersocre>install.
