One thing to consider is that sometimes hall effect position sensors can go intermittent with temperature fluctuations. With 6 years Mercedes Benz service under my belt I've seen it more than a few times. If you can get your hands on a crank position sensor you know is good, it would definately be worth a try to swap it in and see if it solves your problem. Having never fooled with my own, I can't offer any advice on how to swap the part. Good luck!
