You did not have any coolant pumping going on with your drive. You were in danger of boiling over your cooling system, bursting hoses or causing severe damage to the head and other things.
I can't believe what people do to their vehicles!
Your steering and braking were in trouble to and this could have led to damage and injury or death.
The tensioner fails very rarely. The fixed plastic grooved pully just above it is the one that fails every time if not changed out. The tensioner might be a pain to remove and replace, and it is probably expensive at the dealer, don't know. They may be replacing the two other pullies and the belt, and that is around $130 in parts. I think that the tensioner mechanism comes with the tensioner pully, and visa versa. $137.60 at http://www.eeuroparts.com, they also list the pully separate as well at $28. But you don't know if the tensioner, pully or both are bad.
The battery and starting problems could easily be unrelated. But it might be a good time to have that changed out while your wallet is bleeding.
I hope that the engine is not damaged!
